This Privacy Policy explains how Crypto News Daily Canada collects, uses, discloses and protects personal information when you visit cryptonewsdaily.ca (the “Site”). It is written to meet the requirements of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where they apply, provincial privacy laws, including Quebec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector.

1. Who we are

Crypto News Daily Canada is an independent publication covering cryptocurrency news, markets and education for Canadian readers. The Site is operated by an individual, who is accountable for the personal information under our control.

2. Personal information we collect

Information you provide directly:

Contact form and email: your name, email address and the content of your message.
Comments: if you comment on an article, the name, email address and website you enter are stored with your comment, along with your IP address and browser user agent. Your email address is never published.
Newsletter (if and when offered): your email address and, where provided, your name. We will only collect this once a newsletter sign-up is available on the Site.

Information collected automatically:

IP address, browser type, device information and general location
Pages viewed and time spent on the Site
Cookie and similar identifiers, as described in our Cookie Policy

3. How we use your information

We use personal information to:

Respond to your enquiries, corrections and news tips
Publish and moderate comments, and protect the Site from spam and abuse
Understand how visitors use the Site, using Google Analytics through Google Site Kit
Show advertising and measure its effectiveness, once advertising such as Google AdSense is active
Meet our legal obligations

We identify the purposes for collecting personal information at or before the time of collection, and we do not use it for a new purpose without your consent unless the law requires or permits it.

4. Consent

We rely on your consent to collect, use and disclose personal information, in a form appropriate to its sensitivity. Analytics and advertising cookies are switched off until you choose to allow them through our cookie banner, and newsletter sign-ups require an explicit opt-in. You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions, by using the “Manage consent” tab on the Site or by contacting our Privacy Officer.

5. Cookies and tracking technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies as described in our Cookie Policy. Any technology that would identify, locate or profile you is turned off by default and only enabled with your consent.

6. Service providers we share information with

We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the Site:

Google LLC: website analytics (Google Analytics via Site Kit), spam and abuse protection on our forms (Google reCAPTCHA, which collects device and browser information), and advertising once active (Google AdSense)
CoinGecko: live cryptocurrency price data; when your browser loads the price ticker, your IP address is disclosed to CoinGecko’s servers
Our web hosting provider: stores the Site and the information collected through it

We remain accountable for personal information we transfer to service providers, and we use contractual and other means to make sure they protect it to a comparable standard.

7. Storage and processing outside Canada

Your personal information may be stored and processed outside Canada, including in the United States and in other countries where we or our service providers operate. While it is outside Canada, it is subject to the laws of those countries and may be accessible to their courts, law enforcement and national security authorities.

8. How long we keep your information

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described above, or as required by law. In particular:

Contact form messages and emails are deleted within 24 months of our last exchange
Comments, and the information stored with them, are kept for as long as the comment is published
Analytics data is kept according to the retention settings of Google Analytics

9. Your rights

You have the right to:

Access the personal information we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
Withdraw your consent, subject to legal or contractual restrictions
Challenge our compliance with this policy

If you live in Quebec, you may also ask us to provide your personal information in a structured, commonly used technological format, and ask us to stop disseminating your information or to de-index any hyperlink attached to your name, where the law allows.

10. Privacy breaches

If a breach of security safeguards involving your personal information creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify you and report it to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and, where applicable, the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec, as required by law.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your personal information, please contact our Privacy Officer first so we can try to resolve your concern. You also have the right to file a complaint with:

12. Children’s privacy

The Site is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
